How we say it--how we frame it--matters.
Whether we use an active verb or passive verb construction matters.
Whether we are willing to take responsibility for what we achieve or fail to achieve.
Whether we see and portray ourselves in charge of our lives or mere victims of what happens.
Whether we acknowledge our role and involvement in the larger world and in creating that world for ourselves and others.
Frequently, it reveals our resolve, our level of commitment, or our trustworthiness.
The underlying truth and/or meaning of our words not only affects our relationship with others and the effect of our words on others, it also affects the effect of those words on ourselves and on our own behavior.
